In the video above, from 6 min 35 sec and onwards, you will watch my interview for my club “Proteas Keratsiniou”, in the tv show of the Greek state television NET “Bike everywhere”.
My name is Stamatis Romas. I was born on January 29, 1974 in Upper Ilioupolis Athens, where I live today. I am a member of an athletic family, as my father was a runner in medium and large distances, so at the age of 7 years I started running. At the age of 12 I was the best athlete in Athens in trail road (Mt Ymittos) and in 600 meters track.
Αt the same time my career as a track and field athlete started in the “National Gymnastics club” having always the leading role in medium-range 400-800m distances. In 1990-91 after the nationwide 3rd victory in the 4×400 relay , and while I was studying in the first year in Physical Education University of Athens, I decided to change sport and I involved 3 years with handball, where I won the championship in Greece with the “National Athletic Club” in 1992. I continued with the handball in elite man category, now in the “National Club” and the “Triumph Sport Club” until 1994 when finally the mountain and road cycling won the first place in my heart. As an athlete and as a founding member of P.O Loutraki, I began an equally successful career in mountain and road biking.
In recent years I have been involved with triathlon, mountain (trail) running, road and endurance running with many awards at a national level.
I graduated in 1995 from T.E.F.A.A (Department of Physical Education and Sport) University of Athens, specializing in”Special Physical Education.” In 1994 I got a diploma from the National Lifeguard Lifeguard Association as a Lifeguard.
I am holding a Diploma in professional cycling (2002) and I was declared to the tax authorities as a sports coach and sports teacher to service professional athletes in cycling, running, triathlon, hobbyists, and people with disabilities.
In 2003 I graduated (B class category) with honors from cycling coaches college, which gives me the right to work as a coach abroad.
I have great experience as I give private lessons to people with disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation) and as aerobic and weight instructor since 1994. At the same period starts my career as a coach in the following cycling clubs: P.O Loutraki, Jason Keratsini sport club, P.E.S, N.F-N.H.
From 2003 I am the official coach of “Proteas Keratsiniou”, a club which gradually won the first place in Greece in all sports. More specifically, in the last 5 years, it became the best sports club in mountain biking in 2008, it was the 2nd club throughout Greece, and in 2009-2010 and 2011 periods it is in the top place.
One of the great highlights of my career is when I worked as a federal coach for the National Mountainbike team in the period 2007-2009.
In recent years I also coach the academies of PAK Halandri and Panathinaikos, with emphasis on detection and utilization talents.
